When it comes to sitting in a barber's chair, it is about more than the haircut; it is also about the experience. To ensure you find a barbershop that meets your needs in every area, learn about some of the methods you can use to find a new barber. 

1. Define Your Experience Goals

It is helpful to know what exactly you are looking for in a barbershop. For example, are you looking for a completely casual, laidback environment that doubles as a social club/barbershop, or do you want a more spa-like, relaxing environment? 

Neither is better than the other, but it is more about personal preference. However, when you know what you want, it is much easier to remove any shops from your list that do not meet your standard.

2. Look for Two-Way Communication

Once you are in the barber's chair, look for signs of two-way communication. The most important thing to remember is that you are paying for a service, the barber is not doing you a favor. As a result, the barber should not simply be doing what he or she wants.

You should also pay attention to the barber's appearance. Sure, being a barber may not come with the same cultural standards of working in the corporate realm. However, as a barber, their appearance is largely a part of their talent and a way for them to market themselves.

If the barber's hair is ungroomed, flawed, or overall unkempt, it can sometimes be an indication of the work they provide. Although this measure does not have to immediately rule a barber out, it is something you should look at as you assess the services they provide.
